VV Interns: A Week in the Life of Christian Acheampong

2 min read

This summer, before starting his first year at university, Christian Acheampong joined our Design department as an intern. Read on to find out how he found the experience.

“For the past 6 weeks, I’ve been working in the design team in the VV London office. As I am a student transitioning to university, working with VesselsValue has developed my design and creative ability, as well as my understanding of the design industry. This has helped prepare me for moving on to higher education.

On my first day in the office, I received a warm welcome, and had introduction sessions with the members of different teams within the organization. This helped me gain an understanding of the maritime industry and what different types of vessels there are. I had a meeting with Chris Silk (Business Development Executive), who introduced me to the world of shipping and gave me a demo of the VV platform. I also had a meeting with Guy Cooper (Cargo Analyst), who taught me about the different vessel types and the key factors to consider when valuing vessels.

During this internship, I worked with Lavinia Cristian (Senior Designer) and Justin Staveley (Junior Designer) who handle all of the graphics and design work for VV. Working with them has been an incredible learning experience. They have given me lots of interesting and challenging tasks which has challenged my creativity, and developed my creative process.

My favourite task was when I had to design an infographic on offshore layers. When doing so, I got to learn and try out various methods and techniques to complete this task. Furthermore, when creating this infographic, I was introduced to new design software which has helped expand my skill set.

To close, being an intern at VV has been an amazing and unique experience. I feel privileged to have worked with such skilled and passionate individuals. I now feel a lot more confident in pursuing a career in the creative industry, and feel a lot more prepared for going to university!”
